Where we work
The whole Lisbon district: Sintra, Cascais, Mafra and Ericeira, Loures, Torres Vedras, Lourinhã, Alenquer, Vila Franca de Xira, Sobral de Monte Agraço, Arruda dos Vinhos and surroundings. Geology changes fast here — from the granite of the Sintra hills to the sandstones of Torres Vedras and the Tagus floodplain — which is why we start from the pin of your land.
A note for foreign property owners
Licensing is mandatory for every borehole — an unlicensed one can mean fines, a sealed borehole and trouble when you sell. If you bought a property with an undocumented borehole, it has to be regularised with APA/ARH; we can help. Part of Sintra and Cascais lies in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, where boreholes also need an opinion from the park authority.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a borehole cost near Lisbon?
Drilling is priced per metre: €20–60/m across Portugal (Zaask, idealista) and about €45–50/m in the Lisbon and Sintra area according to a local driller (July 2026). A complete domestic borehole usually costs €4,000–8,000 according to quote platforms (Habitissimo: €6,000–8,000 in Lisbon); the pump is usually extra.
Do I need a licence to drill a borehole in Portugal?
Yes, always. Every groundwater abstraction goes through the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) — in the Lisbon district via ARH Tejo e Oeste, on the SILiAmb platform: a prior notification for pumps up to 5 hp (cv) and a licence above 5 hp. We handle the process.
Can I drill inside the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park?
The park's management plan (RCM 1-A/2004) makes opening wells and boreholes subject to an opinion from the park authority, on top of the APA process. We include that step.
Is borehole water drinkable?
Only after a lab test from an accredited laboratory. Where a public mains supply exists, borehole water generally cannot replace it for drinking and cooking; it can be used for irrigation and other uses.
